The honest answer is that it depends on your home. Two houses on the same street can need very different systems, so a single price on a website rarely tells the whole story. Here's what really drives the cost.
How Many Powerwalls Do You Need?
A single Tesla Powerwall 3 provides 13.5 kWh of battery storage, while two provide 27 kWh. Many homes run comfortably on one. Larger homes with several geysers, air-conditioners or a pool pump may be better served by two.
The number of units is the biggest single factor in the price, which is why we size every system to the home's actual electricity use.
Solar, Gateway and Installation
A Powerwall works best with solar on the roof, storing the day's sun so the house can run on it at night. Your quote will depend on whether you already have solar, how much you want to add, and your roof space and shading.
Every Tesla system also includes the Gateway, which manages backup and switches the home over when the grid drops. Then there is the installation itself: electrical work, protection equipment, compliance and certification, and SSEG requirements where they apply.
Compare What's Included, Not Just the Number
When comparing Powerwall quotes, check that each one includes the same things: battery capacity, the Gateway, solar, installation, compliance and warranties. A lower figure can simply mean something has been left out.
